By Michael Gorny, Esq.
In nearly every state, workers who are injured on the job
are entitled to compensation for their injuries. While every state has their own system for
compensation, these systems have very different structures, often resulting in
very different outcomes for workers with the same injuries. A recent study
compared New Jersey’s Worker’s Compensation awards to other states. The results reflect very different values for
body parts.
For example, an average worker that loses full function of
their hand in New Jersey will receive approximately $163,000 in compensation,
compared to the national average of $144,000. However, should a worker in New
Jersey receive full function of their thumb, they will receive only $22,000
compared to the national average of $42,000.*
While an injured worker cannot pick and choose which body
part is injured as a result of a workplace injury, It is important to speak
with an experienced worker’s compensation attorney in New Jersey to ensure that
all of your rights are protected and you receive maximum benefits. An experienced worker’s compensation attorney
in New Jersey can help advise you to ensure you receive all benefits you are
entitled to, whether the injury just happened or it occurred some time ago.
